B&W, Bowers and Wilkins, barely needs any introduction. This English company was established in 1966 and its goal was developing the perfect speaker. The P1 was their first attempt. From 1976 they started integrating Kevlar as cone material in their drivers. The legendary DM-6 was the first lucky one to be fitted with this material. From 1979 the 800 series came in production and it became a big success in audiophillic circles and is still used as reference material. The introduction of the well-known Nautilus in 1993 was the next milestone. The technology developed in this one even now leaves its trace in the commercial speakers of this brand. Letting go of straight corners and surfaces has an indisputable advantage with the reproduction of sound because they influence specific frequencies. Due to far-reaching use of round shapes, both on the in- and outside, all frequencies are radiated evenly. That this also has esthetical advantages is of course an asset. The PV1 set the tone as subwoofer in 2004. The use of diamond tweeters became the next innovation.
MT-60D
The complete MT-60D multi channel system consists of 5 identical M1 satellite speakers and a subwoofer, the PV1D. This system is one step above the MT-50 which uses the same satellites, but has to settle for a somewhat more traditional sub from the well-known ASW series. With a total price of almost 2700 Euros we are not talking about a budget system. The sub takes up the largest part of this amount. Standalone it will be sold for just under 1600 Euros.
